Have you ever used a container to transport goods? In the case of large orders or heavy merchandise weight, the use of container transport will be cheaper than DHL and UPS and other express delivery companies.

However, there is a drawback to this mode of transport. It takes more time to process and estimate than the general mode of transport. This time, I would like to introduce the use of container transportation and bulk orders.

Types of containers

The difference between FCL and LCL

There are two main types of containers: "FCL" and "LCL". "FCL" is the abbreviation for "Full Container Load". The goods are filled with the whole container. "LCL" is the abbreviation for "Less than Container Load". It means a small cargo that cannot be filled with an entire container.
"LCL" means the merger of goods from multiple orders into a single container. "LCL" is by the agency or shipping company at CFS(Container Freight station) to complete the packing, customs clearance and the handover of goods. This is different from "FCL". Compared with "FCL", the price will be relatively higher.

Container Size

In addition to special containers, the usual dry containers are two sizes, 20 ft and 40 ft respectively. And a little taller than 40 ft, called the 40 ft high cube container. The above table allows you to see that a 20 ft container can hold 33 m³ cargo, while a 40 ft high cube container can accommodate 76 m³ cargo. However, because the size of the goods are different, so in estimating the quantity of goods in general, the volume of 70% of the calculation.

Types of terms of trade

Incoterms is a universal trading condition worldwide. It is used to determine the scope of cost payment and risk burden between exporters and importers.
Typically, SUPER DELIVERY sends products in the form of DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid). The seller shall bear all costs and risks of shipment to the specified destination. However, the buyer will assume import customs formalities and customs duties.
However, if containers are used in SUPER DELIVERY, we are typically processed on CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight) conditions. We send the goods to the port designated by the importer and complete the handover there. In the choice of CIF condition, the exporter will bear the insurance cost of container transportation to the port.

How to estimate container cost

We estimate the commodity in SUPER DELIVERY as an example. Estimating the cost of a container should at least know the place, destination, size and weight of the goods. After comparing the "Actual Weight" of the commodity with the "Volume Weight", the larger of the two is the final weight. The weight calculated in this way is called " Revenue Ton(R / T,RTN)".

We assume the Taiwanese buyer ordered 200 cases (600 packs) of diapers.
First, we calculated the "Actual Weight" and "Volume Weight" of the goods.
The weight of this diaper is 7.1 kg in a box, so 200 cases are 1420 kg. That's 1.42 tons.
The product carton size is 480 x 425 x 370(mm), so if you convert it to "Volume Weight" you need to multiply by 200, then approximately 15.09 m³.
When the "Actual Weight" is less than "Volume Weight", the final choice is 15.09 m³(R/T).
Then use the calculated figures to determine whether to use "FCL" or "LCL". As can be seen, the use of "FCL" 20 ft container (33 m³) is also very waste of space. So you can judge this time to use the "LCL".
It would take about 110,000 yen to transport 15.09m³(R/T) goods to Hong Kong or Taiwan on LCL terms. If use of 40ft containers in the form of FCL, it will take about 250,000 yen.

How to negotiate product discounts

When using a container for an order, the price negotiation and the stock confirmation of the supplier become important work because of the quantity of goods. Usually, before the new product release, year-end, the settlement period will be easier to negotiate price. In addition, a small variety but a large number of cases will be easier to negotiate discounts with manufacturers.
In SUPER DELIVERY, we can take the place of you to negotiate with the manufacturer. Buyers who want to make bulk orders can contact us at any time.
